The United Launch Alliance Delta 4 rocket was launched Thursday at 8:07 p.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral’s Complex 37 to deploy the Wideband Global SATCOM 7 military communications satellite into orbit for the U.S. Air Force.

Rideshare mission for U.S. military confirmed as second Falcon Heavy launch

More than two dozen satellites from the U.S. military, NASA and research institutions will ride into orbit on SpaceX’s second Falcon Heavy rocket launch, a mission currently scheduled for liftoff in June, a military spokesperson said.

This collection of photographs shows the National Reconnaissance Office’s classified NROL-45 payload, already encapsulated in the Delta 4 nose cone, being moved from the payload processing facility at Space Launch Complex 6 and lifted atop the United Launch Alliance rocket for flight from Vandenberg.
