SpaceX test-fires repaired booster for weekend Starlink launch

SpaceX rolled a Falcon 9 rocket to its launch pad at Cape Canaveral and test-fired its engines Thursday, prepping for liftoff Saturday night carrying another group of Starlink internet satellites into orbit. The Falcon 9 booster has been repaired after a rough recovery in December knocked it out of SpaceX’s rocket reuse rotation.

CubeSats on Artemis 1 to pursue bold missions in deep space, if they overcome battery concerns

The 10 CubeSats hitching a ride to deep space on NASA’s Space Launch System moon rocket promise new discoveries about the moon, space weather, and asteroids. But some of the small spacecraft will launch with their batteries only partially charged after sitting inside the rocket for more than a year.

Ground teams at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center will load fuel into the Space Launch System moon rocket’s steering system and finish closeouts inside the Orion capsule on top of the launcher this week, setting the stage for the start of the two-day countdown sequence Saturday and liftoff Monday.

NASA managers give “go” for Artemis 1 launch after flight readiness review

With one week to go until launch, NASA managers met at the Kennedy Space Center, reviewed flight preparations and cleared the agency’s huge $4.1 billion Space Launch System rocket for blastoff next Monday on a test flight heralding an American-led return to the moon.

NASA began the two-day launch countdown for the Artemis 1 lunar test flight at 10:23 a.m. EDT (1423 GMT) Saturday. Liftoff of the Space Launch System moon rocket remains set for Monday during a two-hour window opening at 8:33 a.m. EDT (1233 GMT).

Three instrumented mannequins strapped into seats on NASA’s Orion spacecraft awaiting liftoff on the first flight of the huge Space Launch System rocket will help engineers evaluate the human experience for future astronauts trips to the moon.

SpaceX cargo capsule returns to Earth with leaky NASA spacesuit

SpaceX’s Cargo Dragon spacecraft splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean northeast of Cape Canaveral Saturday, wrapping up a 37-day flight to the International Space Station and returning home with experiments and a leaky spacesuit for troubleshooting.
