SpaceX launches European Commission’s Galileo satellites on Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral

This was the second out of two planned launches of these spacecraft using a Falcon 9 rocket. Liftoff from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station happened at 6:50 p.m. EDT (2250 UTC).

The launch comes as the commercial astronaut mission, Polaris Dawn, is preparing for an on-orbit demonstration of the satellite internet service. Liftoff from Vandenberg Space Force Base happened at 6:45 p.m. PDT (9:45 p.m. EDT, 0145 UTC).

Liftoff of the NROL-113 mission was at 8:20 p.m. PDT (11:20 p.m. EDT, 0320 UTC). The Falcon 9 was believed to be carrying the military version of SpaceX’s Starlink satellites.

NASA bumps two astronauts from SpaceX flight to make room for Starliner crew

NASA has bumped two female astronauts, including the commander, from the next SpaceX crew rotation flight to the international space station, freeing up two seats to give the agency’s Starliner astronauts a ride home next February.

SpaceX Falcon 9 booster collapses in a fireball on the droneship, ending a streak of 267 successful landings

The mission comes on the heels of SpaceX having to stand down from launching the Polaris Dawn astronaut mission due to weather concerns. The lost booster, tail number B1062, was aiming for a record 23rd landing on the droneship ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas’ when it collapsed and exploded.
