Launched on January 11, 1996, at 4:41 a.m., Endeavour retrieved the Japanese Space Flyer Unit satellite for return to Earth. The shuttle also deployed and recovered the Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology Flyer (OAST-Flyer) spacecraft. The crew was headed by Brian Duffy, with pilot Brent Jett and mission specialists Leroy Chiao, Dan Barry, Winston Scott and Koichi Wakata.
