The second attempt to test the Wake Shield Facility was more successful than the first with the craft actually being released and later retrieved by the shuttle to grow semiconductor films. Endeavour was launched on September 7, 1995, at 11:09 a.m. with commander Dave Walker, pilot Ken Cockrell and mission specialists Jim Voss, Jim Newman and Michael Gernhardt. The Spartan 201 solar science satellite was also deployed and recovered.
