![]() ![]() The first flight to deploy and retrieve commercial satellites in space began with launch of Discovery at 7:15 a.m. on November 8, 1984. The crew was led by commander Rick Hauck, with pilot Dave Walker and mission specialists Anna Fisher, Dale Gardner and Joe Allen. The Telesat H and Syncom 4-1 communciations satellites were launched. Gardner and Allen then performed spacewalks to recover the Palapa B2 and Westar 6 satellites that were stranded after kick motors failed. |
