![]() ![]() The first flight to repair a satellite in space was launched at 8:58 a.m. on April 6, 1984 from pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center. Challenger's crew was commander Bob Crippen, pilot Dick Scobee and mission specialists George Nelson, James Van Hoften and Terry Hart. The Solar Max spacecraft was retrieved and repaired by Nelson and Van Hoften and then relaunched. The Long Duration Exposure Facility was also deployed. |
