Juno's solar arrays put to the test BY STEPHEN CLARK SPACEFLIGHT NOW Posted: May 29, 2011 ![]() ![]() Juno's three solar array wings were deployed and illuminated with simulated sunlight over the last two weeks to make sure the power generators are ready to fly to Jupiter. Juno will push the boundary of solar power technology and become the furthest spacecraft from the sun to ever rely on sunlight for electricity. These images show workers adding multi-layer insulation to the solar panel and magnetometer boom on one of Juno's array wings. Liftoff is scheduled for Aug. 5, and Juno will reach Jupiter five years later. Photo credit: Stephen Clark/Spaceflight Now
