A Defense Support Program satellite was launched for the Department of Defense aboard Atlantis at 6:44 p.m. on November 24, 1991. The early-warning missile detection craft was boosted by an Inertial Upper Stage. The crew was led by commander Fred Gregory, pilot Terry Henricks and mission specialists Story Musgrave, Mario Runco, Jim Voss and Tom Hennen.
