Discovery was launched at 6:58 a.m. on August 27, 1985 was a crew of commander Joe Engle, pilot Dick Covey and mission specialists James Van Hoften, John Lounge and Bill Fisher. The ASC 1, AUSSAT 1 and Syncom 4-4 communications satellites were deployed. Spacewalkers Fisher and Van Hoften retrieved, repaired and relaunched the Syncom 4-3 (Leasat 3) satellite.
