JAWSAT platform
The Joint Air Force Academy-Weber State University Satellite, or JAWSAT, spacecraft will deploy four separate satellites once it reaches orbit: ASUSAT, OPAL, OCSE and FalconSat. JAWSAT's imaging system will capture the deployment of each payload with its six digital cameras. Two other experiments will remain attached to the JAWSAT frame: NASA's Plasma Experiment Satellite and Weber's Attitude Controlled Platform.
Arizona State University's ASUSAT is a student designed, built, tested and operated spacecraft. It is the first of its size, called a nanosatellite, to be launched as a technology demonstrator for low cost spacecraft. The craft will take pictures of Earth and serve as a relay station for amateur radio operators.
The Orbiting Picosat Automatic Launcher from Stanford University will carry six picosatellites to be deployed into space. Three represent the Santa Clara University's Artemis team; two are tether research craft for the U.S. miltiary; and STENSAT is an amateur radio satellite. OPAL's mission is to demonstrate the capability to launch multiple picosatellites from a mothership.
The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory's Optical Calibration Sphere Experiment is a 3.5 meter diameter kapton/aluminum balloon that is designed to orbit the Earth for two years. The craft will be used to test ground tracking systems.
FalconSat was developed by U.S. Air Force Academy cadets to study how charged particles can build up and then wreck satellites' onboard computer systems. Charging Hazards and Wake Studies experiment on FalconSat is a longer duration to ones performed earlier.
