Photos: Aerials of new mobile launch platform

The 390-foot-tall mobile launcher for NASA's Space Launch System is mounted atop pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center for fit checks. The tower rolled out to the pad Nov. 16 and will stay approximately two weeks before returning to a construction site for modifications and outfitting.

The Space Launch System will debut in late 2017. NASA says the rocket will take astronauts into deep space again, including to destinations like asteroids, the moon and Mars.
