Boeing names chief engineer for NASA Systems
BOEING NEWS RELEASE
Posted: July 29, 2004

Joy Bryant has been selected as the chief engineer for Boeing's NASA Systems business unit. In her new position, Bryant will leverage her experience and expertise in expendable launch systems to further launch the Vision for Space Exploration.

"Joy's experience in program management and launch site engineering and operations will be a great asset as we work to implement the Vision for Space Exploration," said Mike Mott, vice president and program manager of NASA Systems. "Her leadership will enhance the NASA Systems engineering team and help us advance our critical engineering capabilities."

As chief engineer, Bryant will ensure high quality engineering support to NASA Systems programs, including: engineering process excellence and improvement; failure analysis on technical problems; high-level customer contact and communications; and engineering technology development roadmaps. She will also become a member of the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Engineering Council.

"We are happy to have Joy joining the IDS Engineering Council," said Dr. John Tracy, vice president, IDS engineering. "Joy's tremendous success as a Launch Conductor, Launch Director and Mission Director for the Delta Programs is well known both inside Boeing and throughout the industry. As part of the IDS Engineering Council, Joy will bring her wealth of experience and focus on execution to a forum where we can drive best practices across the enterprise."

Having the distinction of being the first woman chief launch conductor, launch director and mission director, Bryant has proven her leadership skills by pulling together teams of diverse engineering disciplines to support program requirements.

"The challenges ahead are exciting, and we have the unique opportunity to build the technology roadmap which addresses the call for renewed emphasis on visionary space pursuits," says Bryant. "We can meet these challenges by leveraging our unique talents and diversity, partnering with NASA to maximize the returns of our current operational systems, while advancing the Vision for Space Exploration."

Bryant holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Auburn University and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering and business administration from Florida Institute of Technology.
