"Dr. Garneau has dedicated his life to the Canadian Space Program. He brings to this position the experience and perspective of a respected space authority," said Minister Tobin. "As Canada's first astronaut in space, his accomplishments are a source of pride forevery Canadian." As Executive Vice-President, Dr. Garneau will assist CSA President Mac Evans in the implementation of the Canadian Space Program. His broad experience will be particularly helpful as the Agency starts to develop its future programs. "Dr. Garneau has accomplished outstanding work throughout his career in service to Canada, most recently captivating Canadians during his third mission to space," stated Mr. Evans. "Today he becomes a welcome addition to our management team with an opportunity to work on all aspects of the Canadian Space Program. I know he will make great contribution to the ongoing success of our work." Dr. Garneau has been appointed to this position for a two-year term. The Agency coordinates all aspects of the Canadian Space Program and is at the forefront of the development and application of space knowledge for the benefit of Canadians and humanity.
