Mounted on a mobile launch platform, a Japanese H-2A rocket rolled to its launch pad at the Tanegashima Space Center on Thursday, a half-day before its scheduled liftoff with an observatory to monitor global rain and snowfall.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the builder and operator of the 174-foot-tall launcher, oversaw the 500-meter (1,640-foot) trip at about 11 a.m. local time Thursday (0400 GMT).

Liftoff is set for 1837 GMT (1:37 p.m. EST; 3:37 a.m. local time).
