Flight configuration
The Delta 4 rocket configuration that will fly the first couple of launches is the "Medium" version with just one Common Booster Core first stage and a second stage. For the inaugural flight, the specific configuration is called "Medium+ (4,2)". That translates to the basic Medium design with a four-meter nose cone and two strap-on solid rocket motors. The vehicle as we see it here has a simulated payload mass mounted aboard, but from the outside it looks exactly as it will during the maiden launch.
