Launch weather forecast
Updated: May 8, 2003

 Forecast for Monday, May 12

Issued: Thursday, May 8
Launch Weather Officer: Jim Sardonia, 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "A strong high-pressure ridge will remain anchored over the Florida peninsula for the next 5-7 days. Expect a daily routine of very warm temperatures with high's in the upper 80's, an easterly sea breeze during the day (after 11:00 a.m.) and little to no chance of rain along the east coast of Florida.

"Favorable weather is expected on Launch Day with only a slight chance of enhanced Cumulus Clouds developing along the east-coast sea breeze in the afternoon hours. Some of these Cumulus Clouds may be within 10 nautical miles of SLC 41 early in the countdown.

"In the event of a 24 hr delay, there is also a slight chance of anvil clouds within 10 nautical miles from isolated thunderstorms in Central Florida.

"The only concern for Launch Day is the slight chance of enhanced Cumulus clouds within 10 nm of SLC 41 (Cumulus Cloud Rule)."
