Engine start
The Atlas rocket's liquid-fueled booster and sustainer engines fire to life in the final 2.4 seconds of the countdown. Two of the four strap-on solid-fueled boosters are then lit to propel the vehicle skyward. This image shows one of the solids igniting with the nozzle cover being blown free.
