Photos: Ariane's sunset blastoff

An Ariane 5 rocket roared out of its jungle launch base in South America at sunset Wednesday night, successfully climbing into geosynchronous transfer orbit to deploy the Arabsat 5C and SES 2 communications satellites to cover the Middle East and North America.

These photos were taken at the Toucan observation platform about 3 miles south of the launch pad. Photos: Stephen Clark/Spaceflight Now
