Spaceflight Now STS-100

Mission Theater FAQ
Updated: April 23, 2001

Frequently Asked Questions about Spaceflight Now's Mission Theater service:

Why have you started charging for video?

The production and serving of our video clips is Spaceflight Now's single greatest expense. As the number of visitors to the site has risen, the cost of providing the video has become prohibitive.

Spaceflight Now receives no financial support from major corporations or government agencies. We have to meet the costs of providing our service from our own pockets. We reluctantly decided we would have to offer the video on a subscription-only basis. The only other option was not to offer it at all.

We have to cover our expenses or the site would cease to exist. If you enjoy our coverage, and would like to see Spaceflight Now's coverage continue, and expand further, you can support our efforts by subscribing.

All subscription revenue is being reinvested in maintaining and improving our coverage of the space program.

How long does this subscription last?

The STS-100 Mission Theater subscription covers all video associated with the current flight of space shuttle Endeavour. Some additional "bonus" video on other subjects may be available to subscribers. Archived video clips on the site will be available to subscribers for at least six months after the mission and probably longer.

Are you offering a monthly or annual subscription?

We are currently running separate subscriptions for each shuttle flight. We are considering annual and monthly subscriptions, but this will not be introduced until the summer at the earliest.

Are you offering live video feeds?

No. We offer pre-recorded video clips so we can guarantee the download quality. This also allows subscribers to watch the mission events at their convenience.

Can't I get this video for free elsewhere?

We believe we have the internet's most comprehensive video coverage of this mission. Most of our clips are not available elsewhere or appear on our site first. You can see a list of what's currently available to subscribers.

Why do you charge in British Pounds?

We are a small British-based publishing company. Currently we can only take payment in Pounds Sterling. We hope to be able to charge in U.S. dollars soon.

Please contact us if you have any further questions about this new service.
