Space station mission launches from Japan

The first H-2B rocket lifts off at 1701 GMT (1:01 p.m. EDT; 2:01 a.m. JST) from the Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan. The launcher deployed the H-2 Transfer vehicle about 15 minutes later, successfully concluding the rocket's maiden flight.
